DCAR Young Professionals Network
DCAR Young Professionals Network mission:
The mission of the DCAR Young Professionals Network (YPN) is to create a dynamic entry point for real estate professionals striving to become more successful in their careers and gain leadership experience. By providing this entry point, DCAR is helping NAR to build a new, diverse generation of leaders to strengthen members' affinity for the REALTOR® brand early in their careers and to gain a valuable perspective on generational shifts.
YPN's growth nationwide has been driven by REALTORS®. YPN has evolved from a REALTOR® Magazine offshoot to a determined, passionate, savvy group of members who are committed to strengthening the REALTOR® brand. What makes DCAR's YPN distinct is that DCAR's network also places emphasis on public policy to strengthen D.C.'s livability.
Experience and requirements for application:
- Members should have an interest in learning about the intersection of the marketplace and local legislation and politics.
- Members are expected to attend committee meetings and various association events (generally three in-person events and six Zoom meetings annually). Members who have three unexcused absences will be removed from the committee.
- Members ideally should be willing to serve as panelists at events or have contacts they could recruit to serve as speakers.
- Members will ideally recruit other REALTOR® members to participate in events and join the network.
- Members are encouraged to participate in additional organized real estate YPN events and report back on their participation at these various conferences.
Global Business Advisory Council
Global Business Advisory Council mission:
The mission of the DCAR Global Business Advisory Council is to represent DCAR's strategically focused international efforts in the District and around the globe. The Council's goal is to increase members' awareness of global business opportunities - both inbound and outbound - and to attract international investment to our incredibly diverse and culturally rich city.
One of the biggest impediments for foreign investors and international clients who wish to invest in property in the District relates to U.S. tax and property regulations and the Foreign Investment in Real Property Tax Act (FIRPTA). All too often, they have difficulty finding REALTORS® who are qualified and knowledgeable enough to navigate these issues.
DCAR will also help foster referral opportunities and business partnerships in over 76 countries where NAR has established relationships. The Council plans to coordinate with the Association of Foreign Investors of Real Estate (AFIRE), which specializes in the commercial property arena.
Experience and requirements for application:
- Applicants should have an interest in and understanding of the importance of global real estate investment in the District of Columbia.
- Members of the committee are expected to attend committee meetings and various association events (generally three in-person events and six Zoom meetings annually). Members who have three unexcused absences will be removed from the committee.
- Committee members ideally should be willing to serve as panelists at events or have contacts they could recruit to serve as speakers.
- Members will ideally recruit other REALTOR® members to participate in events and join the Council.
- Members are encouraged to participate in additional organized real estate global events and report back on their participation at these various conferences.
DCAR Public Policy Committee
DCAR Public Policy Committee mission:
The Public Policy Committee analyzes pending and proposed legislation in D.C. It establishes DCAR's official stance on a variety of issues and ensures the association's advocacy presence in the District.
The Public Policy Committee meets throughout the calendar year and committee meetings are held once a month in person at the DCAR offices. Members who have three unexcused absences will be removed from the committee.
Experience and requirements for application:
- Applicants should have an understanding of local legislation and politics.
- Committee members are occasionally asked to participate in various activities at the Wilson Building. Examples of such include testifying at D.C. City Council hearings, meeting with councilmembers and their staffs, and showing support for colleagues in public testimonies.
- Members of the committee are expected to attend Speaker Series and various association events, respond to calls for action and invest in RPAC.
- Members will ideally recruit other REALTOR® members to participate in events, hearings, initiatives and join the PPC.
- Members will be asked to get feedback on the issues at hand with PPC and be recognized as the face and voice of the PPC at your brokerage and brokerage sales meetings.
- Members are encouraged to join one or more sub-committees to further advance the mission and initiatives of the full committee. Activities of the committee may include: events/programming, social media outreach and grassroots campaigns, calls to action efforts, councilmember relationship building, leadership development and brokerage communication outreach.
